General Council  

The highest body of the Akademi is the General Council which consists of the following 38 members: 

i) Chairman/Chairperson: The Hon’ble Governor of Manipur is the ex-officio Chairman/ Chairperson of the Akademi; 

ii) Vice-Chairman: The Hon’ble Minister, Manipur holding the portfolio of Art & Culture is the ex-officio Vice-Chairman of the Akademi; 

iii) Financial Adviser: The Secretary (Finance), Govt. of Manipur is the ex-officio Financial Adviser of the Akademi; 

iv) A representative of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India; 

v) A representative each of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; 

vi) The Commissioner/Secretary (Art & Culture), Govt. of Manipur; 

vii) Six nominees of the Government of Manipur; 

viii) Twenty-one (21) persons belonging to different fields of music, dance, drama, literature, fine arts etc. including three (3) eminent persons nominated by the Chairman; 

ix) Three (3) persons eminent in the field of culture who are elected by the General Council; 

The term of the General Council is 3 years. It is, therefore, reconstituted after every 3 years. 

Executive Board 

The general superintendence, direction and control of affairs of the Akademi are vested in the Executive Board which consists of the following members:

i) The Chairman of the Akademi;

ii) The Vice-Chairman of the Akademi;

iii) The Financial Adviser of the Akademi;

iv) A Representative of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India;

v) The Commissioner/Secretary (Art & Culture), Govt. of Manipur;

vi) Six persons who are elected by the General Council from among its members.

The Executive Board is also reconstituted after every 3 years.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee considers the budget of the Akademi and makes recommendations thereon to the Executive Board. It consists of the following members:

i) The Financial Adviser of the Akademi (Chairman);

ii) The Commissioner/Secretary (Art & Culture), Govt. of Manipur;

iii) Two representatives of the General Council;

iv) One representative of the Executive Board.

Standing Committees and Advisory Committees

There are 5 Standing Committees and 2 Advisory Committees which draw up the annual programmes and projects to be undertaken by the Akademi. The recommendations of these committees are further approved by the Executive Board and the General Council. All these committees consist of 7 members including the Secretary, Manipur State Kala Akademi. These committees are as follows:

i) Standing Committee for Dance;

ii) Standing Committee for Music;

iii) Standing Committee for Theatre & Shumang Leela

iv) Standing Committee for Literature;

v) Standing Committee for Fine Arts;

vi) Advisory Committee for Archives;

vii) Advisory Committee for Library.

Like the General Council and the Executive Board, the Standing Committees and Advisory Committees are also reconstituted after every 3 years.

Officers of the Akademi

As envisaged in its Constitution, the following are the Officers of the Akademi:

(a) The Chairman/Chairperson

(b) The Vice-Chairman

(c) The Financial Adviser

(d) Secretary, Manipur State Kala Akademi

The Secretary acts as the Principal Executive Officer of the Akademi and is appointed by the Executive Board of the Akademi with the approval of the Government of Manipur.
