This book is a translation of Bharata Muni’s Natya Shastra, the most notable and ancient Indian treatise on performing arts. Published in 1985, this voluminous work was translated into Manipuri by G. Surchand Sharma. The first volume covers chapters 1 to 18.

A compilation of various talas of Nata Sankirtana by S. Thanil Singh, Khomjillaba Meitei Pung Tanjao is a very useful practical handbook meant for advanced course of study in Nata Sankirtana Pung. This book was first published in 1981.

Published in 1999, this book is a Manipuri translation of Manik Bandopadhyay’s Bengali novel Putulnacher Itikatha by A. Shyamsundar Singh.

Published in 1983, Lei Pareng amasung Thainagi Leirang is a collection of poems written two pioneers of modern Manipuri literature Dr. Kamal and Khwairakpam Chaoba. This work brings together eighteen poems of the former and twenty-one poems of Chaoba.

As the title suggests, this book is a compilation of multiple seminar papers presented by several eminent scholars from inside and outside Manipur on various aspects of Manipuri dance, music and other performing arts at the historic 7-day ‘Manipuri Dance Seminar’ chiefly organised by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, in October 1971. Edited by E. Nilakanta Singh, it was published in 1975 and was reprinted in 2009.

Edited by R.K. Mani Singh, this book is a collection of twenty-six contemporary Manipuri short stories. Published in 1979, it offers a peep into the trends of contemporary Manipuri short fiction.

The Akademi has been taking up the initiative of collecting, compiling and publishing the noted works of pioneer Manipuri writers which have already been published many years back. Nganggoi Pareng, published in 1980, is one such book that brings together five short stories of A. Minaketan Singh.

Edited by G. Surchand Sharma and published by the Akademi in 1978, this voluminous work is a composition of the sixty rasas after the Vaishnava aesthetics as presented in Manipuri Nata Sankirtana.

First published in 1994 and reprinted in 2019, this book is a collection of eight puyas (ancient manuscripts in Meetei/Meitei script) that trace the genealogy of the seven yek-salais or clans of the Meetei/Meitei community of Manipur.

The Akademi has been taking up the initiative of publishing the major works of several Manipuri writers who are considered pioneers of modern Manipuri literature. Published in 1979, Sati Khongnang, a play, is one such work of Sorokhaibam Lalit Singh, a noted playwright, poet and lyricist born in the last decade of the 20th Century.

This publication is a Manipuri rendering of Saratchandra Chattopadhyay’s popular Bengali novel Srikanta. Translated by A. Shyamsundar Singh, it was first published by the Akademi in 1979 and later reprinted in 1992.

The Manipuri rendering of Chaitanya Charitamrita composed by Krishnadasa Kaviraja in Bengali in the 16th Century. A work that details the life and teachings of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, it was translated into Manipuri by Tongbram Gouramani Singh and was published in 1992. The first volume covers chapters 1 to 5.

One of the earliest publications of the Akademi in Manipuri, Tangkhulgi Wari Singbul, edited by Y.K. Simrey, is a collection of fifteen folktales of the Tangkhuls, one of the major tribes of Manipur. Published in 1976, this work throws light on the religion, customs, traditions and beliefs of the Tangkhuls.

Published in 1984, this book gives detailed descriptions of ancient villages situated on various river banks of Manipur. The Editor, O. Bhogeshwar Singh, has not only transcribed the text from the original Meitei/Meetei script to Bengali script but has also taken meticulous care to explain the archaic Manipuri terms and texts in modern Manipuri.

One of the earliest Manipuri periodicals, Yakairol was a popular journal published in the first half of the 20th Century. Poems, essays and plays by eminent writers of the time including Hijam Irabot, Nabadwipchandra Singh, S. Lalit Singh etc. appeared in several issues of the journal. The issues that appeared between 1930 and 1932 have been collected and compiled by R.K. Sanahal Singh and published in book form as Yakairol by the Akademi in 1991.
